Sunglasses, faces & frame shapes

The shape of your face can have a huge impact on the glasses you wear. A frame that looks chic and sophisticated on one noggin can look dorky and ill-fitted on another.

Sunglasses are an essential part of your outfit. Not only do they add style and sophistication but they also protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays and your face from the lines created by squinting. Not only do you need to select the right sunglasses for your face shape but also for your specific need.

First is to determine what is my face shape. A cool trick is by taking a whiteboard marker and tracing the shape of your face in a mirror. Then stand back and take a look. Is it round, oval, square, rectangular, heart shaped or triangular.

            For

           round faces

choose glasses with dark frames. They narrow the face and bring its contours closer to an oval shape. To balance your proportions choose a frame where the width is greater than the height like wayfarers, cats eyes. Avoid round glasses and narrow frames or frames with sharply defined edges and glasses that cover your eyebrows.

           Oval faces

are lucky in that almost all sunglass shapes will suit. We recommend glasses with smooth-lined frames. Rectangular, oval, round, aviators and cat’s eyes all suit people with oval faces. Frames with sharply defined edges, frames that are too big or wide for the face and small narrow frames are to be avoided.

            The aim with

           square faces

is to soften the square lines. Thus avoid square and rectangular shapes and anything with sharp edges. Opt for round sunglasses, cat’s eyes and aviators.

Rectangular faces also need to soften the edges with rounded frames that will visually help balance and soften overall proportions. Go for larger frames . We recommend round glasses, cat’s eyes with subtle round edges and aviators for this shape.

           heart shaped faces

your aim is to balance out the upper part of your face by making the lower part appear bigger. Avoid large sunglasses, instead opt for smaller round frames, aviators and wayfarers.

           triangular faces

will seek to visually broaden the upper half of the face while making the lower half less conspicuous. Choose sunglasses with a large frame and a broad upper part. The lower part should not have square or sharp edges. The best styles are round glasses in simple tones, aviators and cat’s eyes with lighter lenses.

Sunglasses might be a small accessory, but they have a large impact. A great pair of sunglasses can change your face, your style, and even boost your mood a bit. Just look at the rise of—and controversy around—tiny sunglasses for the proof. But those micro shades are no longer dominating personal style the way they did in summer’s past. Instead, the sunglasses market has exploded into stylish yet
